Asari Dokubo arrested by the SSS

One time Niger Delta activist, Mujahideen Asari-Dokubo was yesterday arrested for making inciting comments about the 2015 elections by the Department of State Service (DSS).

The ex-militant, Asari-Dokubo in 2013 had threatened fire and brimstone if President Goodluck Jonathan does not return as president in 2015.

The All Progressives Congress (APC) had demanded that Department of State Servic (DSS) arrest Mujahedeen Asari-Dokubo and described as reckless, irresponsible and totally condemnable the alleged threat by Mujahedeen Asari-Dokubo to levy war against Nigeria even if President Goodluck Jonathan is defeated even in a free and fair election in 2015.

”There is no better test of the fairness, non-partisanship and professionalism of the SSS than this Asari-Dokubo’s threat to levy war on his own country. If Asari-Dokubo is not above the laws of the land, he must be hauled before the SSS, just like the service did to our Deputy National Secretary, to explain his statement,” APC said.

Speaking on a Channel’s TV programme, Politics Today, he said “2015 is already a settled matter; Goodluck Jonathan will be president in 2015. Whether they contest or they don’t contest, Goodluck Jonathan will be president,” he said adding that he would be ready for violence if needed.

Replying to comments made by former Head of State, General Muhammadu Buhari, he warned that that “if they say the blood of the dogs and the baboon will be soaked in water on the street, in blood on the street, in salt water on the street, we will help them soak them in blood”.

The former Head of State was reported to have said that “If what happened in 2011 (alleged rigging) should again happen in 2015, by the grace of God, the dog and the baboon would all be soaked in blood,” in May of 2012.

Buhari spoke in Hausa while addressing members of the CPC from Niger State, who paid him a courtesy visit in Kaduna. He also warned that 2015 would be bloody if the elections were not transparent, just as he dismissed reports that he would not contest the 2015 presidency.

Buhari who painted a gory picture of Nigeria as that of a hound and a monkey engaged in a battle for survival said, “God willing, by 2015, something will happen. They either conduct a free and fair election or they go a very disgraceful way”

The Deputy Director, Public Affairs of the SSS, who spoke with our correspondent, said: “We have said it that we will not condone reckless statements which are capable of plunging this nation into crisis.

“We will ensure that the law takes its course on whoever makes such comments. This is why we invited Asari-Dokubo. Nobody is too big or small to be quizzed by this commission.”

The comments which landed Dokubo in SSS net are as follows: “If it is war, the North wants, we are ready for them because Jonathan must complete the mandatory constitutionally-allowable two terms of eight years. At home, we have regrouped and we have put our people at alert.

“In less than one hour, the way we would strike, the world will be shocked. If anybody does anything against Jonathan, we will retaliate. What we will do will shock the whole world. We will cripple the economy of the country not only in the creeks, but also on the nation’s territorial waters, no vessel will be allowed to enter Nigeria’s territorial waters.

“Let them not try anything. If they abuse Jonathan, there is no problem, he is their President but anything that will affect the interest of the Ijaw people and the interest of the entire people of the Niger Delta will be resisted at any cost.”

“Let them go and sleep in their houses. If they don’t, they are looking for trouble and we are going to give it to them. It will make better sense if APC picks its presidential candidate from the South- South. With that, there will be no battle for us to fight and it will make it easier for us. Whichever way it goes, it will enable us to continue our right of uninterrupted rule of eight years, which is the minimum constitutional requirement.

“They cannot take that from the South-South and we will not accept it because every part of the country must have equal access to the various institutions of government, especially at the federal level.”

Meanwhile, earlier on his arrival at DSS office, Asari who was accompanied by his kinsmen said he was prepared to answer any kind of question that may be posed to him.

“I’m here to honour DSS invitation, I don’t know if it is arrest.

“I’m not afraid of arrest, and have never been. Arrest is part of the dividend of the struggle. I have been arrested 73 times, today’s arrest will be making it the 74th time.

”I’m going into DSS headquarters with my prayer mat, my Koran, tisbih, toilet bag, which contains my toothpaste, toothbrush.

“I’m also here with my drugs. I am fully prepared, if the DSS decides to arrest me, I’m ready to stay,” Asari said.
