Fire guts Access Bank In Benin

The Airport road branch of Access Bank in Benin, Edo state, was Wednesday night gutted by a rampaging fire.

Eye witnesses said the fire started from the rear top floor of the building at about 7:00 p.m.

It was also gathered that officials of the bank were still inside the building when the fire started.

Prompt response by men of Edo State Fire Service supported by the Nigeria Air Force Fire Service helped put out the fire.

The bank officials who were seen outside the building, however declined comments on what led to the fire.

A witness said, “We were observing our evening prayers when we saw the fire from the back of the building and it was spreading fast.”

Head of the Fire Service team, Sadoh Akeem said they responded to the distress call and that they put out the fire as quickly as they could.

He said the part affected contained books according to his observation.

Policemen were drafted to the scene to apparently forestall any looting.
